President Dr. Lu Dan Visited Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman of Malaysia

On September 15th, Dr. Lu Dan, President of University of Sanya (USY), visited Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Malaysia and met with Pro. Ewe Hong Tat, President of UTAR. Both sides reviewed the history of cooperation between the two universities and signed a MoU on the basis of friendly exchanges to promote the development of both universities.

USY and UTAR reached further consensus during the talk, which is conducting the cooperation base on principles of voluntariness, win-win cooperation, mutual promotion and common development; the two universities will give full play to the respective advantages to achieve complementarity of strengths and attain a new leap forward in the development of each side. The cooperative areas will include research projects based on the Centre for Intercultural Studies of USY and the Centre for Chinese Studies of UTAR; research on Chinese culture and Chinese culture in Malaysia through projects; jointly publishing research results; the research results will be applied in accordance with specific agreements signed separately by the two sides; carrying out academic exchanges and personnel training cooperation.

UTAR, a private university, registered under the Malaysian Private Higher Education Act 1996, is affiliated to the UTAR Education Foundation Board. It offers courses in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas including Accountancy, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Arts and Social Science, Chinese Studies, Malaysian Studies, Business and Economics, Engineering and Built Environment, Information and Communication Technology, Life and Physical Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, Media and Journalism, Education, Agriculture and Food Science, and engages in the provision and conduct of research, consultation, management and leadership training and other related educational services at its campuses at Bandar Sungai Long and Kampar in Malaysia.

USY and UTAR have maintained friendly cooperation and active interaction since the establishment of their partnership in 2018. In 2019, USY sent two students to participate in the Belt and Road training program organized by the two universities; Prof Chuah Hean Teik, former President of UTAR, conducted a series of online lectures for USY in 2020 to introduce the specific indicators and requirements for being selected for international educational ranking and accreditation, and to provide advice and guidance for related work; the two universities also carried out online academic exchange meeting in May of 2022 for in-depth communication about academic cooperation and joint cultivation with the goal of establishing academic cooperative community; in June of the same year, researchers from School of Information and Intelligence Engineering of USY and School of Computer of UTAR held the first summer vacation salon with theme of "Computer Vision and High-Performance Three-Dimensional Modelling" to have in-depth discussion about the sharing and utilization of high-performance computer and super computing resources.
