On December 7, the opening ceremony of the 9th Confucius Institute Conference was held. Madam Liu Yandong, Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of P.R. China and Chair of the Council of the Confucius Institute Headquarters attended and addressed the ceremony. The Opening Ceremony was hosted by Yuan Guiren, Minister of the Ministry of Education and vice president of the Confucius Institute Headquarters Council. President Lu Dan was invited to attend the Conference.

Vice-Premier Liu Yandong, chair of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters, said the past decade witnessed the evolution of Confucius Institute into a featured education resource system. In the coming decade it will be essential to integrate into the local culture background by following local thinking and living customs, so that Confucius Institutes may serve as a window for people of different cultures to understand each other. She expressed gratitude to people and the related at home and abroad, granted them awards and posed for a group photo with awards winners during the Conference.
Confucius Institute and the Image of the Nation, written by President Lu Dan
In the journey to its educational internationalization, Sanya University has been consciously participating in the development of Confucius Institute. In August, 2014, Confucius Institute and the Image of the Nation, written by President Lu Dan, was published in Outlook and received much attention. Sanya University is actively implementing its cooperative programs with universities in the United States, Thailand and Russia. President Lu Dan also had a cordial conversation with Cheryl Young, the Assistant to the President and Ms. Zhao Chen, Dean of Confucius Institute of Miami University at the conference.

Brief Introduction to Confucius Institute
The Chinese language learning colleges, known as Confucius Institutes, named after the world-renown Chinese philosopher Confucius, are institutions used to promote the education and exchange of Chinese language and culture in the world. The purpose of the Confucius Institute is to develop and promote Chinese teaching in the world, and to promote exchange and cooperation between China and the rest of the world.
By far, The Confucius Institute has 475 institutes and another 851 Confucius Classrooms in 126 countries or regions worldwide, with 3.45 million registered students in cumulative terms.
